Studying in New York, Jialiang Chen pursued a master’s degree in plant breeding at Cornell University, where he explored the sustainable farming of annual wheat and maize. He then worked with those crops at two agricultural companies. At The Land Institute, Jialiang focuses on developing perennial wheat breeding lines, generating hybrids and mutants through field selection, to inform future studies on perennial grains.
My most perennial trait: Exploration – to understand the growth of perennial wheat and the relationship between soil and plants.
