Join the Lawrence Art Center, the University of Kansas, and Perennial Films for a screening of Prairie Prophecy , a documentary that takes viewers on a journey through the life and vision of The Land Institute’s co-founder, Wes Jackson, whose “natural systems agriculture” framework forms the backbone of the organization’s work to pursue an agricultural transformation centered on perennial grain crops and cropping systems.
After the screening concludes, a panel discussion featuring Nathaniel Brunsell, professor of geography & atmospheric science and director of the Environmental Studies Program at KU; James Bever, Foundation Distinguished Professor of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology and senior scientist at the Kansas Biological Survey; and Lisa Grossman, local painter and printmaker of the tallgrass prairie and the Kansas River valley, will follow.
This screening is part of a series of events across the Great Plains promoted by the NSF-funded Research Coordination Network: Building a Community of Practice for Co-Producing Resilient Socio-Ecological Systems in Grasslands. The screening will take place at the Lawrence Arts Center’s 10th & Mass Studios. It is free and open to the public, and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
