Raised in a small town in Southern Sweden, Lennart Olsson studied geography and social anthropology at Lund University, where he became a professor and founded LUCSUS in the year 2000. Lennart spent most of his childhood summers at the grandparents’ farm – the farm he inherited 25 years ago and where he now grows Kernza perennial grain. While he read about Natural Systems Agriculture in the 1990s, he did not begin collaborating with The Land Institute until he met Wes Jackson in 2013. Lennart’s personal mission is to help expand perennial grain research to Europe and sub-Saharan Africa through joint research projects with The Land Institute and others.
My most perennial traits are stubbornness and optimism–It must work if we don’t give up.
