
Josey Oley
Research Assistant
Josey lives in Salina, Kansas, and works as a research assistant at The Land Institute’s headquarters. She joined the organization with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science and a concentration in conservation. Prior to contributing to perennial grain research goals, Josey worked for two years as a Wildlife Technician in the US Forest Service in Michigan, surveying wildlife in the area and collecting, entering, and processing data.

What’s most inspiring about your specific position at The Land Institute?
Working as a Research Assistant allows me to gain experience with all the different departments and aspects of The Land Institute’s research.

What perennial grain do you look forward to eating most, and how would you prepare it?
Kernza. I love baked goods, so I would probably start with a muffin or bread.
What’s one aspect of your life history that most people don’t know or wouldn’t expect?
I’m a twin.
What else are you passionate about outside of work?
I love going for hikes and playing video games.
If you were to write a book, what would it be about?
Insects
