Kate Schieferecke
General Research Assistant
Kate grew up just north of the county line in Ottawa County, KS, and is happy to call this place home again this summer while working as a Research Assistant with The Land Institute. Kate obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Kansas State University and will begin working on her Master’s in Public Administration at Wichita State University this August. In college, she interned with K-State Research and Extension through the education and leadership non-profit Ogallala Commons in Finney County, KS, focusing on a mission in which both human and natural ecosystems can thrive. While helping KSRE carry out a community health assessment through Ogallala Commons, Kate also learned about the conservation and renewal of the social capacities of rural communities, including relationships, assets, ideas, values, and vision, knowledge which she now brings to The Land Institute.
