A scion of an Iowa hog farm, Nolan Monaghan has studied agrarian landscapes from the Yellow River to the Swabian Alps, and currently resides in St. Louis, Missouri, where he writes about agroforestry and sustainability. He was introduced to perennial agriculture and The Land Institute at the Savanna Institute’s Perennial Farm Gathering, which inspired his love for deep-rooted plants. Nolan has a varied history in perennial farming, with experience in both perennial grains and agroforestry, and is currently focused on a project centered on domestication and the origins of agriculture. He served as an intern at The Land Institute during the summer of 2021.
My most perennial trait is Long Term Thinking – I am always planning and investing in the structures that will help me thrive far into the future.
