The Craft Maltsters Guild is holding their annual conference, MaltCon2024, at the University of California – Davis this February, with speakers from around the country presenting on topics ranging from sustainable malting to plant breeding, climate considerations in the malting industry, perennial grains, and more.
Brandon Schalutman, Kernza grower and Lead Scientist in the Perennial Legumes Program, will be speaking on Kernza and its potential as an income-producing crop that also conserves soil in a session titled “Kernza Unleashed: The Potential of Perennials.” This session will also feature perspectives from Natalie Cilurzo, Co-Owner and President of Russian River Brewing Company in Northern California, who participated in the recent Patagonia Provisions Kernza beer project.
