Born in Winnipeg, Canada, Matthew Bakker eventually returned home to build a research lab at the University of Manitoba. He was intrigued by a lecture from Wes Jackson, which led him to aim for a summer internship while completing his undergraduate program in environmental studies. Matthew conducts research on soil ecology and plant diseases. Matthew was initially a summer undergraduate intern, then a Graduate Fellow, and eventually returned for part of a sabbatical as a faculty member.
My most perennial trait is Complexity – I have never been a good one for staying within disciplinary boundaries.
