To everyone growing a perennial future,
Every growing season begins with a question: What will take root this year? That same question guides our work at The Land Institute, year after year, as we steward a bold and hopeful vision—one where agriculture heals rather than harms, where food systems sustain communities and the planet alike.
Since 1976, this organization has been testing what’s possible. What began on the Kansas prairie has become a global movement to transform agriculture from the ground up. In the past year alone, researchers and partners from more than 25 countries gathered to advance perennial grain development. Farmers planted thousands of new acres of Kernza® and perennial rice. And we expanded our capacity to test, adapt, and scale new crops, systems, and collaborations.
This progress is real. But it didn’t happen overnight—and it didn’t happen alone. It’s the result of decades of patient science, thoughtful partnerships, and unwavering support from people like you. You’ve helped us stay rooted in place and connected to the world. You’ve made space for long-term work in an era of short-term thinking.
Our task now is to deepen our commitment, grow the networks that sustain this movement, and ensure that our research continues to serve both the land and the lives it supports.
Thank you for being part of this community. There’s still so much to do—but together, we’re cultivating a future worth inheriting.
Perennially,
Each year, we publish a Perennial Impact Report to share updates on our research, partnerships, and long-term vision for agriculture. These reports offer a snapshot of where we’ve been, what we’ve learned, and what’s ahead.
