Q&A

What’s most inspiring about your specific position at The Land Institute?

Having the opportunity every day to engage with the internal teams helping lead the global effort toward perennial agriculture, while simultaneously working with those interested in funding and supporting this important work.

What drew you to work at The Land Institute?

Over a decade ago, I saw Wes Jackson speak at an event and was captivated by the image of the outsized root system of a perennial grain plant and what it could mean to our country and planet at scale. The opportunity to help make that a reality drew me in.

What perennial grain do you look forward to eating the most, and how would you prepare it?

Sainfoin. I am a legume fan and would be interested in trying it in soup, chili, or hummus.

What’s your motto/favorite quote?

“Just don’t let the human factor fail to be a factor.” — musician Andrew Bird

What were you like at age 10?

A lot of laughing and fierce independence. As a kid of the Rockies, I’d spend a lot of time outside, exploring and taking risks, whether on foot, bike, or ski. When inside, I was likely glued to a radio or book.
