From New York and DC, Paul Adelman was an environmental studies student longing for a more sustainable world. He met Wes Jackson when he came to Oberlin College to give a talk in 1984. Afterward, Paul chatted with Wes, and Wes invited him to apply for an internship. Wes and the other interns and staff made him feel deeply connected to his core beliefs about how humanity should live on earth, and Paul found his year at The Land deeply meaningful and fulfilling. Even after 45 years (!), he and his fellow 1985 interns are still close and get together every couple of years.
My most perennial trait is Hope – Humanity has been getting it wrong in so many ways for so long. The philosophy and values I experienced at The Land gave me hope.
