Rena Detrixhe’s ‘Red Dirt Rug’ shares landscape of Oklahoma
Salina-based artist Rena Detrixhe spent Friday creating a “Red Dirt Rug” that embodies the history of humanity’s relationship with the nature of a certain state.
Detrixhe imprinted the rug on the second floor of the Salina Innovation Foundation. As Detrixhe spent three years as part of a fellowship in Tulsa, Okla., the rug is made up of hand-sifted, loose, red soil from Oklahoma. The impressions were made with pieces of shoe soles and the patterns symbolize the impact humans made on the landscape of the state.
