Date: Tuesday, May 28, 2019

Time:

Location:
Cider Gallery
810 Pennsylvania St
Lawrence, KS 66044

The Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission and Ecosphere Studies at the Land Institute will host Art in the Ecosphere, a symposium to connect Kansas practitioners with selected organizations from around the country working to center and support art and artists as part of an ecological worldview. The symposium will highlight the growing field of art and ecology in order to contemplate the role of art in changing how we relate to the ecosphere and our place in it and to imagine new models and possibilities for ecospheric arts programming in our region.

The event will feature 6 organizations from around the country whose missions focus on the intersection of art & ecology through artist residencies, education and outreach, and other creative projects including:

Wormfarm Institute
Crosshatch Center for Art & Ecology
Playa
Marble House Project
A Studio in the Woods
LandLab (at the Schuylkill Center)

Moderated by Ben Shockey
Fieldworks Consulting/former Director of the Sitka Center of Arts & Ecology

These national leaders in the field will interact with local artists and organizations engaged in place-based, community-based, land-based, research-based, and experiential practices to facilitate a diverse range of creative perspectives.
