Millfest at Lindsborg Old Mill
Date: Saturday, May 6, 2023
Time:
120 E Mill St.
Lindsborg, KS 67456
Each spring, the Lindsborg Old Mill hosts Millfest – a family event celebrating the history of the mill and the pioneer heritage of the region. Millfest is held the first weekend in May and features guided tours of the mill in operation.
On Saturday, May 6th, The Land Institute’s Lydia Nicholson (Educational Design Technician) and David Van Tassel (Lead Scientist, Perennial Oilseeds) will be sharing an activity adapted from the Kernza in Context lesson titled “What is a Grain?”. They will bring samples of the perennial grains in development at The Land Institute and discuss the difference between cereals, legumes, and oil seeds. Our team will also discuss processing and why The Land Institute focuses on perennial grains specifically.
Professional millers will also run the mill (without grain), and tours are available for visitors age 13 and older. Other activities include a traditional arts fair, including a quilt show, live musical entertainment, and food.
The event on Saturday is open to the public, and no registration is required. Learn more here.
