Our Work
Central Great Plains
The Land Institute collaborates with farmers, scientists, and the plants themselves to develop perennial grain crops adapted to the Central Great Plains and support innovations that help build healthy soil, restore waterways, and create abundant food and economic growth.
From our headquarters on the banks of the Smoky Hill River in Kansas, we explore real-world applications of perennial grains like Kernza® with regional processors, distributors, food producers, brewers and distillers, and retailers and restaurants, building fluency and advocacy with educators, students, community groups, and civic scientists.
Research partners located in our Central Great Plains home are supporting the development of perennial grain crops, cropping systems, and markets to build new communities centered around perennial agriculture.
